Some realy good things from the 1.5patch
The 1.5 patch for COD4 has enabled persistant ranking to be available to mod folders. This means that players can now enjoy custom maps in the fs_game path, and still be able to rank up like they did for the so-called "ranked" servers.

You dont even need a mod to run custom maps now. Just create an fs_game folder, put in your config files, and boot up the server, and off you go. No mod necessary.

What does this imply for the future of mods?

Well, you can mod the hell out of the game, like disable UAV, Choppers, and Air Strikes, disable perks like Martydom, and still rank up.

This means that modwarfare is no longer necessary to be used as a basis of a mod. The community wish for Create-a-Class to be available to modded servers, and for it to "save" your selections is now a reality.

This means you wont even have to have any mod.ff files. (so, if those files were causing you a headache, you might be releaved to hear this)

I shall be taking AWE4 down this route. I intend to have an option to either use modwarfare as a basis, where everything is available all at once, or switch modes and go for ranking up.

The real beauty about this is that, now they've enabled stats and data to be saved to the mpdata file, being able to "save" a players weapons selection will be now doable even for modwarfare mods. It just needs the right menus to be reintroduced.

One thing is for sure - this is the death of the old so-called "ranked" server. I see a mass Exodus to modded servers now, with everyone playing the custom maps.

In fact, we will no longer be able to talk about things in this way - there is no more "ranked" and "unranked" servers.
