Does anyone know how to Overhaul a DVD drive.
For some reason my DVD drive Wont Open??? i think my boy was pissing about with it when i was on the phone in the kitchen. :wallbash:
Anywayz i tryed useing a bit of brute force with a screw driver but wont budge. you can hear it trying to open but does not move.
Is there any way of actually Repairing it as its is a tidy DVD drive.
Its a
Samsung Write Master (IDE) 16x DVD RW, dual layer writer.
If they cant be repaired does anyone have a IDE DVD RW spare that i can purchase. Got to be Dual Layer and 16X as certain games need a dual layer reader.
Cheers

Manual Drive Release / Emergency Eject
To get the DVD Drive Open, you only need 1 thing.
A 'straightened' Paperclip or a very thin screwdriver (the smallest you usually find in a mini toolkit).
Usually located on the right side of the DVD Drive, to the left of the EJECT Button on the DVD should be a small hole. This hole is for the Manual Drive Release / Emergency Eject. As you push the Paperclip through, you should feel a little resistance, this is normal as you are actually turning the Mechanism inside to release the lock and push the tray out. You can do this with the Drive Powered On or Off (doesn't matter), also found on laptop Drives (Easier release).
Then with the PC on, try the Eject button to see if the Tray Closes and Ejects itself from now on.

BTW, all DVD-Rom Drives since the 1st Generation DVD Drives are Dual Layer Readers. It's only the the Writing side that came out in Single and Dual Layer Varieties due to technology advances.
Spare Drives:
Pioneer DVR-111D (x16 Max), Silver Bezel, IDE , DVD-R/RW +R/RW RAM, RPC-1
(http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products/archive/DVR-111D/index.html)BenQ DW1640 (x16 Max), Biege Bezel, IDE, DVD-R/RW +R/RW, RPC-1 (http://benq.eu/support/downloads/downloads.cfm/dtype/B/page/downloads/product/750)
But for what it would cost me to send it to you in the Post, I would be better giving you the money towards a new one. About £20-25
