COD 4 sound settings - selections crash game

Any one have any ideas, when I change the ingame sound settings via the options, my game just closes down and I get a directx error.

I have switched off Xfire, and I have updated DirectX but it seems to crash not matter what I change it to.

I'll post back the settings later when I have more time. I guess it may be something to do with the onboard sound.

Tried the latest Drivers for your Soundcard?

Also can you check for 2 files in your "c:\windows\system32"
they might not be there so don't worry, "OpenAL32.dll" and "wrap_oal.dll"
If they're there, could you check the versions...
'Right-click', Properties then "Version" tab

wrap_oal,dll - is version 2.1.8.1
