I meant to post last night, but I forgot to.

It's really up to you if you want to spend £30-50 on a gaming class keyboard.
But I would suggest you look for a keyboard you feel comfortable using (layout, key design, size) before you look for the extras that the keyboard brings (LED's, Macro buttons, USB hub, etc.) Especially if your limited on the amount of space you have, as a number of gaming keyboards are longer due to the extra keys they include.

This is what I use, Logitech Ultra-X Flat (PS2) - £17 from OCUK a few years ago (and I have a spare in case this breaks/gets too dirty).
Simple, cheap, laptop style keys, but I wanted a keyboard that had the Standard Arrow Key design from original keyboards, and no "Power", "Standby" and "Suspend" buttons to clutter / get in the way.
As I use the Arrow Keys, not the WASD or NumPad for movement.

This Pic was posted a while ago. Reduced (http://www.zen113360.zen.co.uk/Desk_1.jpg) / Full-Sized (http://www.zen113360.zen.co.uk/Desk_1_Full.jpg)
Keyboard Close-Up (http://www.zen113360.zen.co.uk/Keyboard_Close.jpg) / Height (http://www.zen113360.zen.co.uk/Keyboard_Height.jpg) / Side (http://www.zen113360.zen.co.uk/Keyboard_Side.jpg)

Also, when you find a keyboard you like, I suggest you look into how many key presses the keyboard allows before it starts 'Ghosting'. It varies between each keyboard depending manufacturers design. Most will be around 4-5 keys; if you press any more, then the key commands gets mixed up and then some / all of the keys you are holding down will stop working until you release some keys.

For Example:
Holding your Crouch + Left + Forward, then trying to change weapon / throw nade. You player might stop moving, or will not do the last keystroke. Due to a hardware limitation of the keyboard.

Use to affect me years ago, when playing Wing Commander 4 on PC, trying to hold the Afterburner while moving diagonally and shooting at the same time kept activating the Afterburner Lock (different key) / or would stop moving.
Was at the time W + A + Tab + Space, kept activating the Tilde key (console key / above Tab) or stopped moving diagonally.

Reference:
A few products I know, and their max key presses before 'Ghosting' is an issue:
WolfKing Wolf Claw - 3-4 (Someone I knew didn't like it due to the ghosting issue. Kept blaming it, Think he bought a Nostromo afterward)
Logitech G15 (v1) - 6-8 (I think)
Razer Tarantula - 10 (according to website)

I think it might be in the 11,000 - 13,700 range, it's been a while since I used it.
I did a quick try a few mins ago and got 10,500 (exactly), but I can't honestly remember and it got cleared from the memory.

In my opinion the best keyboard i have played with is the one im using now.
It is lightning quick, never misses a command because of the anti ghosting function, it is fully programmable, the buttons have an excellent response and overall the board has a subtle air of quality about it.

It has 2 extra usb ports built in, it will take your headphones, microphone and speakers as well, so u dont have to ferret about round the back of your pc.

All the buttons are removable for ultimate config, its awesome kit.

wasnt cheap, bout £70.00 plus £15 for the battlelight, but very very nice.

Razor tarantula........oh, and battlelight.

I have not used a KB for 4 years now. All my gaming has been with a Nostromo N52 by Belkin. I found it frustrating at first but I could never go back to a primitive KB again. I don't use any of the profiling software and just assign keys as I see fit. The best tips I got for using the N52 were from Toesy, especially for using the thumb operated Dpad for jump, crouch, lean left and right. It is a superb piece of kit. I will never ever go back to using a KB.

What's a G15 Scott?

As for KB's I like Logitech, mainly for the feel.

I wonder why Clovis has a pair of tweezers on his desk? The mind boggles! ;)

Get a N52 TE, Harding, it takes time to get used to it, but by using standard keys within the games its brilliant.

I'll talk you thru the settings

Nostromo N52 SpeedPad never ever used anything else, an extension of my left hand when gaming. I just need better eyesight.
