riight...erm, i know prices are rising etc etc, and its reali bad and forcing the economy down with it etc etc...but i keep seeing stats which say we're buying less petrol too...which means some of what we used to buy was waste...and im kinda into the save the environment thing mainly cos most ppl dnt realise tht in 4 yrs the world is doomed on our current flow of events.
yh the yanks get it cheap
yh so do alot of other places
but considering most of that tax we pay is going into serious research for future fuels, i say its well payed, and worth it.

Xx

The calculation below of what the breakdown is for what you pay for fuel at the pump, was taken from this website the ADB http://www.abd.org.uk/pr/624.htm

This was when it was £1.12 p/l now its higher

Cost Breakdown per Litre:
VAT rate % = 17.5%
VAT per litre = 16.81p
Cost without VAT = 96.09p
Fuel Tax per litre (HMRC) = 50.35p
True Fuel Cost = 45.74p
Total Tax = 67.16p
Including VAT on Fuel Tax = 8.81p
% of Forecourt cost which is tax = 59.49%
Total tax rate = 146.86%

So basically the governent gets over 60% straight into the treasury or their bank, so to speak.

So its not just that you get taxed here, but you get the increases in vehicle tax, congestion charges.. the list goes on and on. And its actually the government who is pushing up the rate of inflation.

As the cost of crude oil rises, they could reduce their tax %, so they get the same amount in £ that have been getting, but no. They dont reduce it as its a big cash cow for them.

Makes you think.

And dont forget the Government is planning a rise in VAT soon. To 19 or 20% so add that one up on the majority of items you purchase or pay for.

Gordon Brown did think about this in April 2008, but didnt change it, but dont think this wont happen.
