We'll.. basically I've been looking to upgrade my processor but lack of money sort of put a halt to it...so I tried to go for 2nd best and over clock it...And now im guessing a few of you are shaking your heads knowing where this is going lol..

Anyway the story goes:

I remembered nvidias nTune had several OC utilities within it, so i downloaded the latest update and installed it..

Then my nVidia control panel wouldnt open kept getting "bder" sounds with a nice error saying something died.

So I uninstalled the nvidia drivers...it also unisntalled my ethernet drivers...so i got a little pissed :@

Anyway so I then re-installed them coz id downloaded them before i unisntalled em so i could install em again.

But that achievd nothing........

SOO I put in my mobo CD which usually installs the drivers for everything only to find it said they were all "installed" yet none of them worked...so from the CD i clicked the additional software/utilities and noticed a overclocking utility...thought a fk it i'd read sumwhere that you could safely OC the amd 4200 x2 to 2.6 on a decent air system, so i thought hmm nah i'll only go from 2.2 to 2.4 to test...so i clicked the up arrow a few times till i got there......then hit "GO"

After that i got a nice BSOD and it rebooted....

Got to the user selection screen (xp home sp2) clicked me and boom...it hung, no errors juts puure hangage =/

Went into BIOS for a nose around found a reset option..so I thought hmm...and tried it..then it booted up again. this time i clicked my parents old account and as its only a limited user the OC utility failed to boot so it didnt hang...just had no connectivity...

Switched back to mine and guess what...yes it hung again done this several times now and its annoying lol

SOOOO can anybody help me :P I know rev bob, chunk, steel and the other resident boffs have some idea what they are on about so any help will be SEVERLY helpfull:sweat:

Thanks!!

Yes its fooked m8...

Not sure about the other views, but the thermal cut out should of stopped this from happening. But unless you can try the CPU in a working rig, im at a loss to how you can verify that it is fooked.

I have a couple of AM2 rigs and would be willing to test it for you !

reset your bios as per the motherboard manual.

Probably remove the cmos battery and short out the pins as per manual.

reseting the bios within the bios wont work.

You might also have to boot up your pc in safe mode and un install the oc software.

Your Pc's not buggered or you wouldnt get to the windows logon screen.

You could also try doing a system restore via your windows disk!!

I would go with a bios reset first If I were you.

Ahh bugger didnt spot that Grumps, well spotted.

For me, I would do as Grumps says, but if you have a spare HD around the house, wack that in and try a fresh install. If this goes fine and all seems well then you may be able to try booting from the XP Disc and repairing windows, i've never had any joy with this process but others have.

But my gut feeling is Owens OS/Overclocking application install may now be Overclocking from boot and making the CPU cut out and hang.

Hope my useless fooked comments inspire you, and then you can say " ha ha toesy I got it sorted ya numpty "

I go along with Grumps and reset the CMOS. A clean install is a good idea if you have your files backed up. As you are a computer savy person no doubt you have.

Good luck.

In the bios all the settings are default.

When i boot the PC and go into MY profile it tries to load the settings from a file and then it freezes, I can log into the other user accounts which are limited but they cant delete anything lol

I'd been trying the safemode option but my blimming USB keyboard doesnt get detected on boot....

Edit: Mate found me a PS/2 one and im all sorted:P

Good job it is now sorted.

Now the ntune o'clocking software is lethal, do not use it again, it did the same to an old 939 set up I had.

You will not get much of an in improvement witho'clocking the chip anyway, IMHO a worthless excercise.

Now remind me what your graphics card is?

reason? I am just finishing off a new budget build using a factory O'C duel core Intel, which is running at 2.66ghz from 1,6 ghz as std.

The same 7900GT that produced 10,000 3dmark 2003 scores is now producing 19000, the motherboard comes with the chip on board and is £83.00 inc vat.

I slammed in 2gb of Corsair xms at £36.00, so far it has installed and ran 3d mark and other test programmes as sweet as a nut, in fact it is one of the best builds I have ever bought.

The chip is running at the same clock as my std E6750, the object was to get a computer that would play COD4 at 1024 x 768, I think it will do that easily.

Using this board http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131868

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is using the linked board and its overclocked E2140 cpu, the cheapest duel core cpu.. from 1.6ghz std to 2.6ghz out of the factory, no guesswork, no fiddling with the bios, straight into the case boot up install the drivers and off you go, terrific.

For the cost of the board and some Corsair XMS memory plus a cooling fan, you could upgrade to these speeds. £120.00

Remember using your 8800GTS the speeds will be even higher, you should be able to play most if not all games out there. Foregt AMD chips these Intel's even at the starter cores are superb.
